Château Montana is located between the sea and the mountains, in the south of Roussillon near Perpignan.
Today Jean Jonquères d'Oriola, from a farming family established in the eastern Pyrenees for more than 5 centuries, has taken over Château Montana, created in the 19th century. Surrounded by his family, he works, guided by his passion, to develop the finesse and power of this terroir as well as the potential of these places. It produces white, rosé and red wines as well as natural sweet wines, a Roussillon tradition.
The property in addition to its wine activity that you discover through visits and tastings, offers you to rent its room which can accommodate all types of events (baptisms, weddings, seminars, ...).
The grape variety of the vineyard, adapted to the land, allows us to produce both local wines and high-quality ‘Appellation d’Origine’ wines.
The new wine cellars built between 2003-2005, are a blend of tradition and modernity. They are always in use, from vine management, environmental respect, the wine making process, to maturing of the different vintages.
Discover two cuvees of the property!
The first cuvee, Silencio, is an AOC Côtes du Roussillon red, produced on the property’s clay-limestone soil. With a composition of 60% Syrah, 20% Carignan and 20% Grenache Noir, this magnificent vintage has a deep colour and a complex nose. On the palate, one can identify notes of red fruits and nuances of vanilla.
Astre Blanc, another cuvee, is a local Côtes Catalanes white, ideal for rediscovering Grenache, a typically Mediterranean grape variety. A cuvee made from mature vines with a small yield, with a blend of 90% "Grenache Blanc" and 10% "Grenache Gris". The wine is bold, well balanced, with mineral notes.
Following its restructuration, the owners developed many oenotouristic activities at the property. Guided tours of the vinification and wine maturing cellars as well as introductory or refinement tasting sessions are now available throughout the year.
Upon request, buffets and meals can be organised either in the garden or in the wine cellar, depending on the season. Furthermore, the surrounding area offers abundant opportunities for a light walk or hike to see chapels, churches and other historic buildings dating back to the period between the Franco-Spanish wars.
