50 Rue Pouge de Beau, 33290 Ludon-Médoc
Château Paloumey is located at the gates of the Médoc, whose gravelly soil is the favorite ground for the most prestigious vineyards. Since the 19th century, Château Paloumey has been part of the Crus Bourgeois of family’Médoc. The Bourgeois, inhabitants of the city of Bordeaux, are the happy owners of the best land in the region.
In 2003, Château Paloumey became Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. Since the 2008 vintage, the Cru Bourgeois label has been awarded each year to Château Paloumey. A great recognition for the quality of the Paloumey Vineyards wines.
Château Paloumey was classified Grands Crus in 1855, it is located south of the Haut-Médoc appellation, in Ludon Médoc.
The first feature of the Medoc region is its climate due to its location, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary, the region benefits from a temperate climate favoring viticulture. We count 8 appellations which give birth to exceptional wines: Haut-Médoc, Margaux, Moulis-en-Médoc (three AOC where the Paloumey vineyards are planted), Listrac-Médoc, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe and Medoc. The second particularity of the Médoc region is its soil which is made up of sands, gravels, clays, pebbles and pebbles. This soil constitutes the “grave” lands of the Médoc. Naturally carved into rumps, the gravel terraces constitute an innate drainage for the vines.
The vineyard of Château Paloumey with its 34 hectares of plots, presents a great diversity of soils. These exceptional soils bring to Château Paloumey complexity, elegance and a structure worthy of the greatest properties of the Haut-Médoc appellation.
The Château Paloumey vineyard brings together three typical Médoc grape varieties: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon (late grape variety, backbone of the wine bringing complexity, structure and aging potential), 40% Merlot (early grape variety known for its flexibility, roundness and freshness) and 5% Cabernet Franc (varietal combining finesse and spicy aromas). A plot selection and the blend of these three grape varieties, resulting in the production of a high-quality wine.
Château Paloumey offers two types of activities: an assembly workshop and a visit / tasting.
