1 Place du Mail, 49170 Savennières
Located in Savennières, Domaine du Closel is a castle dating from the 17th century, which belonged to the upper middle class of Angers, then to the prestigious family of Nantes shipowners: the Walsh, Count of Serrant.
In the 19th century, Napoleon's biographer Emmanuel de Las Cases inherited the estate. Since that day, the Château des Vaults and its vines have been managed by the descendants of Las Cases.
Domaine du Closel has been created by a line of female winegrowers. Michèle Bazin de Jessey, the niece of Marque de Las Cases, wife of Closel, developed the vineyard and created the operating company: Les Vins Domaine du Closel.
Today, Michèle Bazin de Jessey's daughter, Evelyne de Pontbriand runs the property and develops wine tourism activities at the Château. She also converted the estate to organic farming.
The work of the vines carried out by the Château des Vaults prioritizes biological balance and respect for the rhythms of nature.
You will have the opportunity to discover the Savennières appellation which is a Grand Cru of the Loire Valley, located 15 km southwest of Angers. It is a small area appellation: 156 ha and 36 winegrowers, it remains confidential and produces a rare wine (very low yields): 4000 hl / year.
The vineyards of Château des Vaults are located on hillsides perpendicular to the Loire, benefiting from an exceptional southwest exposure. The nature of the soil is extremely complex and therefore perfect for producing great wines. These soils are shallow, very hot and consist of purple and green schists as well as purple sandstones and volcanic rocks (quartz, phtanites, and organic matter).
During your visit at the Château de Vaults, you will let yourself be taken to the heart of the beautiful Angevin residence to taste what only wine has been able to reveal to man since the dawn of time: the soul of the earth.
You will participate in a commented walk in the park and the vineyard in order to discover the landscape of Savennières, the terroirs, the natural approach to the culture of the vine, followed by a tasting of 5 wines. paired with mature cheeses, in one of the Château's lounges.
