1 Rue de Walbach, 68230 Wihr-au-Val
Located in the heart of the steep Valley of Munster renowned for the quality of its soil and its wine production, the magnificent vineyard of the Schoenheitz family of Wihr-au-Val was reborn after the Second World War, in the 1970s, under the impetus of Henri Schoenheitz who decides to replant and redesign the steep hillsides of the Munster Valley scarred by the war.
This estate is now owned by Henri (son) and his wife Dominique, both graduates in oenology and viticulture. With their experience, they welcome you with pleasure to help you discover their estate and their wines.
The 14-hectare estate is planted with 31% Riesling, 21% Gewurztraminer, 15% Pinot Noir, as many Pinot Gris and as many Pinot Blanc. Muscat represents only 4% of the total vines of the estate.
Reasoned viticulture, respectful of the environment, is their main thread. No chemical fertilizer is used on their land, only manures are. The harvest is done manually, and for good reason, the slopes are sometimes so hard that no tractor or other machine can venture there...
The particularity of the Shoenheitz estate lies in its oldest plots, known as the “lieux-dits” of the estate, treated with even more care than the other plots of the property. These vines reflect the granite terroir that makes up the slopes of the Valley of Munster. The passion and the quality of the care given to their vines make them voluble and generous wines, which have been rewarded on several occasions: registered in the Hachette Wine Guide and the Gault & Millau Wine Guide, 2 Gold Medals at the Concours du Riesling of the World 2008…
The owners welcome you for tours of the estate and their cellar and gastronomic tastings commented by the winemaker: tasting of a selection of 5 wines, Kougelhopf and Munster.
